The plain version
Refrain collects nothing about you. There is no account, no sign in, no analytics, and no server of ours for anything to be sent to. Your songs stay in your own folder, on your own devices.
Nothing. Refrain has no user accounts, no sign in, and no way to identify you. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifiers, and no third party tracking software of any kind.
This is why Refrain's App Store listing says Data Not Collected. There is no data held about you, so there is nothing to request, correct, export, or delete. If that ever changes, this page changes first.
Refrain reads chart files from a folder you choose on your own device. Usually that is a folder in your own iCloud Drive, which means it is stored under your Apple Account, governed by your agreement with Apple, and is not visible to us.
Set lists, notes, arrangements, and any backgrounds you add are written beside those songs, in the same folder. They sync between your own devices because that folder does, not because anything passes through us. We never receive a copy, and we could not read one if we wanted to.
Deleting the app, or the folder, deletes them. There is no copy anywhere else.
When you share a session, the person leading and everyone following talk to each other directly over your own local network, using Apple's MultipeerConnectivity. Nothing is routed through the internet and nothing reaches a server we run, because we do not run one.
What travels is only what the room needs: the songs in the current set, which section is showing, and any background image chosen for a song. It goes to devices already on your Wi-Fi that have joined the session, and it is not stored once the session ends.
This is what the Local Network permission is for. Refrain uses it for nothing else.
Refrain has a catalogue of foot pedals so you can find yours by name. The photographs of those pedals are not stored in the app. They are fetched from the manufacturers' own websites, once, the first time you look at that pedal, and then kept on your device so it never has to ask again.
We want to be plain about what that means. When your device fetches one of those pictures, the manufacturer's web server sees the request in the ordinary way any website does, including your IP address and your device's user agent. That is a request between you and them, under their own privacy policies, not ours. We receive nothing from it and are told nothing about it.
Nothing about your songs, your set, your church, or your device is ever included in that request. If you never open the pedal catalogue, Refrain never makes a network request at all.
Refrain uses Bluetooth to reach a foot pedal or a MIDI instrument you have paired with your device, and to send patch and key changes to your own keyboard rig. This is a direct connection between hardware in the room with you. Nothing about it is recorded or transmitted anywhere.
Refrain is a tool for people leading music, and it is not directed at children. Because it collects no information from anyone, it collects none from children either.
If Refrain ever starts collecting anything, this page will say so before that version ships, and the date at the top will change. We will not quietly widen what is collected and update the page afterwards.
